The Challenge in the AI Era: The rapid rise of generative AI presents both transformative opportunities and new challenges for educational institutions. While AI enhances learning possibilities, it simultaneously complicates academic integrity and the evaluation of student writing skills. To navigate these complexities, RCCC partnered with Grammarly, integrating Grammarly’s Authorship tool to support responsible AI usage. Grammarly Authorship provides essential transparency by tracking document revisions, assessing originality, and empowering students with targeted guidance for improving their own authentic writing.

Melissa Mohlere is an English Instructor at RCCC and Southern New Hampshire University. She is also the Vice President of the North Carolina Community College Faculty Association.

"A lot of my focus is on first-year writing. So, transitioning into the skills that you're going to need in college writing. I always think of it as bridging from high school to college writing."

Riley House is a student at RCCC studying engineering. He aims to earn his associate's degree in engineering and then continue his mechanical or aerospace engineering education.

"So, a lot of times, whenever I have to write something, I'll read my prompt, and I'll sit there and brainstorm. Now, in contrast to what other people typically do, they'll write the ideas down. I don't really do that. I'll talk to other people about it, and it helps me kind of revise my ideas a little bit more and then I can kind of just throw it on the page and change things."
